Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) Therapy

Rewire your nervous system. Reclaim calm, clarity and connection.

What is SSP?

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a non-invasive, research-backed listening therapy designed to help regulate the nervous system, improve emotional resilience, and support healing from trauma and stress-related conditions.

Using specially filtered music delivered via headphones and a digital app, SSP works by sending “cues of safety” to your autonomic nervous system—helping shift your body out of fight-or-flight mode and into a state of calm and connection.

Who is SSP for?

SSP can support children, teens and adults experiencing:

  • Trauma or a history of adverse life experiences

  • Anxiety, depression or chronic stress

  • Sensory sensitivities or emotional dysregulation

  • Autism and other neurodivergent profiles

  • Post-concussion symptoms

  • Learning difficulties or attention challenges

  • Nervous system dysregulation (e.g. feeling “on edge” or shut down)

If you’ve struggled to find calm or safety in your body—SSP offers a gentle, body-based foundation for lasting change.

How it Works

The SSP is delivered by our certified providers at Recovery Solutions through a structured listening experience, using over-the-ear headphones and a digital app. Your experience will be tailored to your unique needs, and may involve:

  • In-office, remote, or hybrid delivery

  • Support before, during and after your sessions

  • Monitoring and check-ins to ensure your nervous system remains regulated

There are three listening pathways:

  • SSP Connect: A gentle introduction using unfiltered music

  • SSP Core: The core therapeutic experience using progressively filtered music to help shift neural states

  • SSP Balance: A lighter, more flexible listening experience to support integration

We will guide you in selecting and pacing your journey.

Why SSP?

Our nervous system is constantly scanning for signs of safety. For some—especially those with trauma histories or sensory sensitivities—this system can get stuck in defence mode. SSP supports your system to gently reset and return to a calmer, more connected state.

Benefits may include:

  • Greater emotional regulation

  • Reduced anxiety and overwhelm

  • Improved sleep, digestion, and energy

  • Enhanced social engagement and communication

  • A calmer, more connected relationship with your body and mind

What to Expect

SSP is not just about listening to music—it’s a neurophysiological intervention. As such, responses can be subtle or profound and may continue to unfold for weeks after completion.

You’ll be supported every step of the way with:

  • An intake process to understand your goals

  • A collaborative, trauma-informed listening plan

  • Active support and check-ins throughout the experience

  • Integration guidance to help you maximise long-term benefit

There is no benefit to rushing through. Listening to your body is part of the healing process.
